Days after testing a laser-guided missile, India successfully test-fired a new version of the Shaurya missile at Odisha.

The Shaurya missile can strike the targets at a distance of 800 km. According to the sources, the Shaurya missile can carry a payload between 200 kgs to 1000 kg.

Shaurya missile, the land variant of the K-15 missile was fired from the MBT Arjun Tank at KK Range in Ahmedabad.

The news missile is lighter compared to the existing missile and in terms of operating, Shaurya is easy. Once reaches close to the target, the missile travels at the hypersonic speeds.

According to some sources, the surface-to-surface tactical missile might be inducted in the strategic forces, and the missile is expected to complement the already existing missile that belongs to the same class.

The new development took place amid border disputes with the dragon country China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) which separates the territory of China and India at the Sino-Indian border
