After Employees, Sand Contractors Are Troubling AP Government

The ruling YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh which recorded a landslide victory in the 2019 elections wants to create history by winning all the Assembly seats in the state. The party is going ahead with the slogan of ‘Why Not 175’. The legislators are made to meet the people regularly and make them understand the welfare schemes.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is giving calls for this. He even dared the opposition parties to contest the elections alone in the constituencies if they could. If YCP can do this then it will emerge as the first party to do so.

However, a few issues are troubling the government. Employees agitation tops the list. The government employees who earlier stunned the government with the Chalo Vijayawada protest are gearing up for another protest for the address of their long-pending demands.

Now the Andhra Pradesh government has another thing to worry about. Sand contractors in the state are protesting alleging that bills are not cleared for around two years. They said that they brought borrowings to finish the work but their bills are not cleared. Holding flexes they are protesting.

Contractors in Krishna and Guntur districts reached the Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation (APMDC) office to protest. They held posters saying that they were duped by the authorities as their dues are not cleared despite completing the work. The Contractors are believed to have warned that they would jump from the APMDC building if the bills are not cleared.

The YSRCP alleged that many wrongdoings happened in sand sales during the TDP regime and proposed a new idea for the sand sales. However there are a few allegations that the sand prices increased during the YCP rule.

From 2019 to 2021, the land sales happened under the Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation (APMDC) and the work was given to the contractors. Their work is to send the sand to people to their doorstep.

However, a company named JP came to the scene and it was given the work. But the Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation (APMDC) did not clear the dues to the contractors and the dues are pending for around 22 months. Saying that they brought money for interest for the work, the contractors are protesting.
