Remember Hardik Patel? Yes. the Patidar leader who campaigned for the party during the 2017 elections for Gujarat Assembly. Hardik Patel, OBC leader Alpesh Thakore and Dalit leader Jignesh Mewani were the three leaders who tried to eat into the BJP votes and defeat it in 2017. Of these three, Hardik was the only one who could not become an MLA. So, now Hardik will formally join the Congress and then fight for the Jamnagar MP seat.
He is likely to join the Congress on March 12 in the presence of Rahul Gandhi. The Congress Working Committee too is meeting at Ahmedabad on the same day and Rahul Gandhi will attend the meeting. Taking advantage of Rahul's presence, Hardik will join the Congress Party. Hardik is a Patel and has considerable hold on the rural Patidars. The urban patels, however, have stood by the BJP in the assembly elections.
