After Humans, Covid-19 Now Troubles Dogs Too
By: Tupaki Desk | 20 March 2020 10:43 AM GMTThe novel corona virus has now started troubling dogs in Hong Kong after affecting humans in the country. Hong Kongs animal welfare authority has confirmed that a second dog was infected with the deadly virus from its owner who tested positive for the virus.
Going into detail, a German Shepherd dog lived with the person who was diagnosed with the novel corona virus in the Pok Fu Lam area of Hong Kong. The person along with the dog was sent to quarantine for treatment.
The government said that both the dogs tested positive were kept at separate kennels. The Oral and nasal swabs of the dog resulted in positive for the German Shepherd.
"It is very likely that the two positive cases [in Hong Kong] are examples of human-to-dog transmission," Professor Malik Peiris at the University of Hong Kong said.
"We will also follow up on the mixed-breed dog, but it has tested negative," he added.
