After liquor smuggling, AP facing another smuggling?

The decision to implement a liquor ban in Andhra Pradesh by the government had resulted in a few fraudsters indulging in alleged liquor smuggling. The Andhra Pradesh police have busted these rackets in a few instances and arrested the guilty. The state is facing another alleged smuggling practice reportedly.

The union government had announced a reduction of fuel prices a day before the Diwali festival. Taking a cue from the Centre, the BJP-ruled states have also come forward to bring down the fuel prices. As a result, the fuel prices in the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka were slashed by Rs 12(petrol) and Rs 17(diesel).

To attract more footfall, the fuel stations on the border are widely publicising the gap in the prices between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. With this, the fuel stations are attracting more customers and more quantity of petrol and diesel is being sold over the few days.

As per the media reports, for easy money, people are smuggling petrol and diesel in their vehicles and fuel cans and selling the same in Andhra Pradesh for a higher price. This is leaving a heavy toll on the income of the state as the smugglers are selling the fuel in large quantities.

On the other hand, experts think that Andhra Pradesh will swing into action and take the required measures to stop fuel smuggling. Like how liquor transport was dealt with an iron fist, the state government would also do the same in fuel smuggling, the experts said.
