After Munugode success, Left parties look to align with TRS
By: Tupaki Desk | 7 Nov 2022 6:36 AM GMTIt is now emerging that the two Left parties - the CPI and the CPM - are looking to cement their ties with the ruling TRS in Telangana. They have mainly helped the TRS win the Munugode assembly elections by casting their lot with the ruling party. They have also ensured that there is no leakage in their support base.
But, their future appears to be quite weak as they are unable to win even a single seat on their own. In some parts of Khammam, the Left parties have supported the TRS and helped it to get the chairperson's post in the local bodies. They desperately need the TRS crutches to remain relevant in Telangana. Hence they are trying to enter into an alliance with the TRS for the 2024 elections too.
The CPM has not won an MLA seat in the state since 2009. It aligned with the YSRCP in Khammam district alone and fought alone elsewhere in 2014. In 2018, it formed the Bahujan Left Front and fought the elections. It could not win even a single seat. In 2019, it fought with Jana Sena and failed to win even a single seat. The CPI had one MLA in the 2014 assembly. But, in 2018, it lost all the seats it contested.
While in alliance with the TDP, the party had won Miryalguda, Devarakonda, Munugode, Nalgonda and Nakrekal - all from the former Nalgonda district. But, on their own, both the parties have miserably failed to win even a single seat. Now, sources say that the Left parties are trying to align with the ruling TRS and win at least a couple of seats. Will their plans bear fruit? Let's wait and see.
