By: Tupaki Desk | 24 Feb 2021 8:40 AM GMTPresident Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the world's largest cricket stadium, Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad. President Ram Nath Kovind and his wife performed 'bhumi pujan' at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) secretary Jay Shah and Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju were also present at the stadium inauguration.
The revamped Motera Stadium will host the third Test between India and England in the ongoing Test series. Both the teams will play the day-night Test with the Pink ball.
The Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad, the world’s largest stadium will also host the T20I series between the two teams. The T20I series is of five matches.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) took to Twitter to share beautiful pictures of the stadium which looks absolutely stunning. "Motera in all readiness. Just a few hours left for the #PinkBallTest #INDvENG @Paytm.ARE YOU READY.#TeamIndia," BCCI's tweet reads.
The Motera stadium has a seating capacity of 1,10,000, a higher capacity than Australia's MCG stadium. The stadium has four dressing rooms for the athletes, including an in-house swimming pool.
Abiding by the Covid-19 guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the stadium authorities will allow only 50 percent of the seating capacity reportedly. This loosely translates to 55,000 fans.
BCCI President, former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly missed the inauguration event as he recently underwent angioplasties. It is said that this is recent behind his absence at the event.
"Will miss being at the stadium today ..what an effort it must have been to create this ..pink test was our dream and it's going be the 2nd one in india.hope to see full stands like last time. Under the leadership of Honble Prime minister @narendramodi Amit Shah @AmitShah," Dada tweeted.
