Putin President Vladimir Putin is all set to land in India to take part in the summit talks with the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. All eyes are on the meeting as key issues like boosting the military ties and other relations are expected to come for discussions between the duo.

Ahead of the key meeting, the Defence Ministers of India and Russia Rajnath Singh and Gen Sergey Shoigu held talks, while Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Minister of External Affairs of India Jai Shankar came together for talks.

The key meeting is crucial as the Defence Minister and External Ministers of both countries were also made to hold meetings bringing a new tradition in the summit meetings. Usually, only the state heads hold such key meetings. But the other Ministers were also made part of the meeting given the scope of improving the ties between India and Russia. This is the inaugural 2+2 meeting between the two nations.

While there is no word on what are the issues that came up during the discussion between Rajnath Singh and the Russian Defence Minister, the latter shared the picture of the meeting and called the meeting a fruitful one. The Central Cabinet Minister had called the meeting productive too.

Without revealing more details, Rajnath Singh said the bilateral defence cooperation between the two nations was discussed and thanked Russia for the support it has been extending for India. He also hoped to bring peace to the country.

"Had a productive, fruitful and substantial bilateral discussions on defence cooperation with the Russian Defence Minister, General Sergey Shoigu in New Delhi today. India values its special and privileged strategic partnership with Russia," the Defence Minister of India tweeted by sharing pictures from the meeting.

"India deeply appreciates Russia's strong support for India. We hope that our cooperation will bring peace, prosperity and stability to the entire region. Glad that a number of Agreements/Contracts/Protocols were signed pertaining to small arms and military cooperation," his another tweet reads.

Modi and Putin will hold the India-Russia summit today. The two leaders are meeting after 2019, where they attended the BRICS summit. Issues like Afghanistan and other terror-related matters are expected to come for discussion between the top leaders.
