Better to put Air India on Sale: Arun Jaitley
By: Tupaki Desk | 6 Jun 2017 7:00 AM GMTFinance Minister Arun Jaitley opined Air India should have been sold out 15-Years-Ago. He went on to say, 'I would privatise Air India if given a choice as the debts have shoot up to Rs 55,000-60,000 crore. Even NITI Aayog recommended privatisation'.
For the first time since it began flying, Air India made operational profit in the financial year 2016-17. High Maintenance Costs has always been a burden on the national carrier.
Arun Jaitley explained Centre needn't worry much about the Rs 55,000-60,000 crore debt as Air India have several Aircrafts and Properties to compensate it. He, however, admits the challenge would be to find a Private Player who can takeover Air India inspite of its high operational cost.
Currently, Civil Aviation Ministry is preparing a detailed report about the debt and assets Air India owns to put it on sale.
