With the Controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill passed in both the house of Parliament, a lot of rumors started that the BJP is aiming for one more proposed bill- A nationwide NRC. Let’s have a look at the Bill which is worrying the opposition parties largely.

What is this NRC?

The NRC stands for the National Register of Citizens. Following the order of the Supreme Court, the NRC has identified and abolished illegal immigrants from Assam. This is a state- determined exercise which aims to keep ethnic uniqueness safe. Following this, the demand for nationwide implementation was on a rise. Several BJP party heads like Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the proposed NRC in Assam will be implemented across the nation. In order to enable the government to identify the immigrants living in India illegally and detain them and to deport them back where they belong.

Who will get affected by this?

The proposed Bill will focus mainly on illegal immigrants who are living in India. But the Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, and Parsis who come from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh facing the religious persecution won't get affected by this. With this proposed bill, illegal immigrants from other than Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh will be affected. As Muslims were not included in the Citizenship Amendment Bill Muslims from these three nations might get affected.

What will happen to the Detained?

If the proposed bill gets implemented the detained will be sent to detention centers just like Assam. Post that the Ministry of External Affairs will approach the concerned countries. If the details of detained persons match the details given by the countries, they will be deported back. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been very strong in implementing a nationwide NRC. Talking about this, Shah said: "We had brought the Citizenship Amendment Bill in the Rajya Sabha, but the TMC MPs did not allow the Upper House to function. They did not allow the bill to be passed, and due to this, there are people in our country who are yet to get the Indian citizenship."During an election campaign, Haryana Chief Minister Lal Khattar also said NRC will be implemented in the state. Taking the fast pace of the government into consideration looks this proposed bill will see an implementation soon.
