Alla Nani reacts to Andhra University reporting 59 new Covid cases

A tense situation aroused on the shore city Visakhapatnam after as many as 59 students of the famous Andhra University Engineering College have tested positive for the novel Coronavirus. The infected students live in University hostels.

The fresh infections were detected after the health officials carried out a testing camp in the hostel after a student was found asymptomatic. Samples of 850 students were tested by the health officials.

Following this, 7 blocks in Andhra University were announced as Containment zones. The hostels in these blocks were being used as quarantine facilities. The exam schedule was also canceled and the fresh schedule will be announced soon.

After the fresh infections were detected, Andhra Pradesh Minister of Health, Family Welfare, and Medical Education Alla Nani spoke to District medical and health officer Dr. P Suryanarayana over the incident.

The Minister said, the Health Department officials are working actively and six hospitals dedicated to treating the Covid-19 patients have been set up in Visakhapatnam district and nearly 7,500 tests are being done in the district daily.

Adding further, the Minister said, the health officials in all the districts have been directed to be alert on the rise in infections. The six Covid hospitals are equipped with 1,000 beds, he said.
