Alliance Politics for AP, 3-cornered Fight for Telangana
By: Tupaki Desk | 7 Jun 2022 5:27 AM GMTOne strange contrast in the political situation in AP and Telangana is in the likelihood of political alliances. While there was talk of political alliances in Telangana during the 2019 elections, the AP did not have any alliance worth the while. But this time around, it is the reverse. There is a likelihood of an alliance in AP, while there appears to be no possibility of any political alliance in Telangana.
While there is a talk of an alliance between Jana Sena and the TDP in AP, there may not be any political alliance in Telangana. The ruling TRS has not gone in for any alliance after 2014. The Congress, which had an alliance with the TDP, CPI and the Telangana Jana Samithi, will go it alone. The BjP too will go it alone. Small parties like the BSP, the Left and others do not matter in the Telangana politics anymore.
Interestingly, all the three parties in Telangana appear to be confident of victory in the 2023 elections. Though unpopular, the TRS is still the to-go party in Telangana. The party may scrape through this time with a greatly reduced margin. As for the Congress, the tidings are favourable, but the party continues to be beset by internal bickering and groupism.
As for the BJP, its graph is on the ascendant. But, it still is limited to the urban areas and does not seem to have the right candidate for every seat. Internal assessments say that the BjP would give a tough fight in about 40 seats in Telangana. As a result, the electoral politics in Telangana appear to be heading for a three-cornered contest.
