Amaravati Maha Padayatra To Touch 4 Districts Only

Has the Amaravati joint action committee's plan to organize a massive 400-km, 45-day padayatra from Amaravati to Tirupati fizzled out? Nothing much is being heard on this front after a pompous announcement. Quite interestingly, even the pro-TDP media appears to have washed its hands off the campaign. There is not much coverage of this yatra.
The yatra would begin from November 1 and would reach Tirupati during the Sankranthi period. As part of this yatra, meetings, street corner gatherings, conferences and others were planned to be held all along the route. This was seen as a measure to drum up support to the Amaravati farmers.
The yatra is aimed at opposing the shifting of the capital from Amaravati to Vizag and Kurnool. The YSRCP government has proposed to set up the administrative capital in Vizag, Judicial capital in Kurnool and the legislative capital in Amaravati. The TDP, the left parties and the Jana Sena have extended their support to the yatra.
However, nothing much is heard about the yatra these days. Reports say that the Dalit JAC has opted out of the Padayatra. With this, the participation has thinned out. Also, the yatra is confined to just four districts - Guntur, Krishna, Prakasam and Chittoor. The yatra will neither touch Vizag nor Kurnool, the counterfoils for Amaravati. What about the remaining nine districts, which are untouched by the yatra? There are no convincing answers as yet.
