Amid Covaxin vs Covishield debate, ICMR reveals data on infections after taking vaccine!
By: Tupaki Desk | 22 April 2021 6:48 AM GMTNearly one year after the pandemic has hit India, the Union government approved two vaccines developed by SII and Hyderabad-based Bharat Bio-Tech for the vaccination process in the country.
The nationwide vaccination drive was started in early January, this year. Covaxin vaccine, developed by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech, and Covishield developed by Serum Institute of India are the two vaccines approved by the Centre.
However, since the vaccination drive was started, a debate was started on which vaccine is the best among Covaxin and Covishield. Doctors said that both vaccines are good and effectively beats the virus.
But a section of people is in favour of vaccines developed by Pune-based Serum Institute of India, while a section of people is in favour of vaccines developed by Bharat Bio-Tech.
Several celebrities and politicians like Prime Minister Narendra Modi taking the Covaxin vaccine dose has added fuel to the argument that Covaxin, the country's first indigenous Covid-19 vaccine is more effective.
Amid this growing debate, the Indian Council of Medical Research(ICMR) Director-General Balram Bhargava issued a report on the number of infections reported after taking the vaccine doses.
As per the report, 0.04 percent of the individuals, who received the second dose of Covaxin have tested positive for the coronavirus. O.03 percent of individuals, who received the second dose of Covishield have tested Covid-19 positive.
On the other hand, out of 93 lakh individuals, who have received the first dose of the Covaxin vaccine. O.04 percent were infected with the virus. Ten crore individuals have received the first dose and 17,145 people were tested positive for Covid-19.
