The new infections related to the Coronavirus pandemic are rising in India over the past six days. Eight Indian states, including Gujarat, have been reporting a spike in new infections.

To curb the fresh pandemic infections, the Gujarat government announced a night curfew in four cities including Surat. The new night curfew will come into effect from the 17th of this month.

The official statement issued by the government says, the night curfew will be imposed in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot from March 17 and lasts till March 31. The night curfew timings will be from 10 PM to 6 AM.

The Gujarat government has decided to impose a night curfew in the four cities after Chief Minister Vijay Rupani chaired a meeting with key officials of various departments.The Gujarat CMO Twitter account tweeted that the state government decided to impose a night curfew in view of increasing Covid-19 cases in the state.

"In view of the increasing cases of COVID-19 in the State, the Gujarat Govt decides to impose night curfew in four major cities - Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot - during 10 pm to 6 am with effect from tomorrow, March 17 till March 31," CMO tweeted.
