As promised before the 2019 elections, the Haryana government led by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar passed the bill, which reserves 75 percent jobs for the locals in the private sector.

Despite the opposition opposed the bill, the Haryana Assembly has passed the bill. Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala tabled the bill in the house.

JJP Lawmaker Ram Kumar Gautam who represents the Narnaund constituency has opposed the bill to reserve a lion share of jobs for the locals and termed the bill as 100 percent wrong.

The MLA is said to have found fault with the bill, which stops the candidates from other states to work in the state. He allegedly pointed out that the state which gets workforce from other states for agriculture purposes can bring such legislations.

Reports claim that the new legislation which goes by the name Haryana State Employment of Local Candidates Bill, 2020 applies to companies, societies, trusts, limited liability partnership firms, and other partnership firms.

Non-local employees can be recruited in the companies only if they can't find a local employee which can fit into the requirements of the firm. The employers should inform the designated officer to do so, reports claimed.

The reservation applies to the jobs which offer less than 50,000 gross salary or wages. A portal will be developed soon and both the employers and employees should have to register themselves.

Many companies have also opposed the bill, while Automobile manufacturer Maruti opposed the bill as it believed that such legislation will affect the competitiveness of the auto industry
