By: Tupaki Desk | 8 May 2021 11:55 AM GMTIndia has been reporting a massive surge in Coronavirus cases and fatalities, due to the outbreak of the second wave. Eight days into May, India reported more than four lakh new Covid-19 cases three times.
With Covid ringing the danger bells in the country, the Union Government announced a revision in the national policy for admission of Corona patients in various categories at the facilities dedicated to treating Covid patients.
As part of the revision of the admission policy, the Union health ministry said, to get admission in the Covid facility, producing a Covid-19 positive report is not mandatory. Suspect cases should be admitted to the suspect ward of facilities.
Under any count, patients cannot be refused medications facility like medical oxygen, required drugs. Even though the patients hail from a different city, medications cannot be refused.
No patients can be denied admissions into the facility on the grounds of not able to produce a valid identity card. Even if the identity card won't belong to the area where the facility is located.
The admissions in the dedicated Covid facilities in the States and Union Territories should be done on the grounds of need. Those who need hospitalisation should be given first preference. The discharges should be done based on the revisions made in the discharge policy.
The Union Health Ministry issued guidelines to set up a three-tier health infrastructure that aims at managing the suspect cases and the Covid-19 cases as well.
The three-tier health infrastructure stresses the importance of setting up the COVID Care Center (CCC), which deals with the mild cases of Covid-19. The CCCs can handle the non-Covid-19 cases.
The Dedicated COVID Health Centre (DCHC) deals with the cases that are assigned clinically. To set up DCHC, with a total hospital or an entire block with separate entry and exit zones will do.
The third facility in the three-tier health infrastructure is Dedicated COVID Hospital (DCH). The facility deals with cases that are severe. In order to serve as DCH, the hospitals should have ICUs, ventilators, and beds with oxygen supply.
