Home Ministry Says No Documents Are Needed For NPR
By: Tupaki Desk | 16 Jan 2020 11:20 AM GMTThough the opposition parties are opposing the National Population Register(NPR), especially West Bengal is strongly opposing this, the Home Ministry made it clear that while updating the register neither documents nor the biometric will be taken.
Officials of the Ministry said that a form that carries questions for the NPR process will be finalized very soon.
"The objective of the NPR is to create a comprehensive identity database of every usual resident in the country. The database would contain demographic as well as biometric particulars," the Ministry said.
The last time NPR data was collected in 2010, which was done alongside the house listing phase. In 2015 the list was updated with door to door surveys.
The Union Cabinet has released a heavy amount of Rs 3,941.35 crore for the NPR exercise.
