When the Andhra Pradesh government is making all the required arrangements to hold the MPTC and ZPTC elections on April 8, the Andhra Pradesh High Court’s orders in this regard came as a shock to the government.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has issued interim orders to stay the Parishad elections. The Court has also stayed the election notification issued by the State Election Commissioner(SEC) Neelam Sahni.

Citing that the election code was not applied as per the orders issued by the Supreme Court, the High Court directed the SEC to file a counter-affidavit on the 15th of this month.

The issue reached the High Court after the opposition Telugu Desam Party(TDP) moved the court with a petition. The High Court heard the petition today and issued interim orders to stay the elections.

The state government, which is very strong on its decision to go for the Parishad elections has announced April 8 as a local holiday and directed the Collectors and other officials to make the required arrangements.

In the orders issued, the AP government directed the concerned officials and departments to make use of the public buildings, educational institutional buildings, and other buildings as the polling booths.

To see that the employees working for both government and private institutions will get an opportunity to cast their votes, the AP government announced a holiday for all the companies and institutions.
