Union Government is keen on shifting the 6,000 MW Nuclear Power Plant which was supposed to be set up in Haripur of West Bengal to Andhra Pradesh. If this happens in reality, Then AP will have a second Nuclear Plant after the one established at Kovvada.

In the wake of protests against land acquisition, The West Bengal Government has gone back on the promise to allot land for the Nuclear Power Plant. As a result, The Nuclear Power Corporation of India has been preferring AP due to the availability of sufficient Government land in Prakasam and Nellore district.

NPCIL director & chief engineer GV Ramesh informs Centre is very much interested in shifting the Nuclear Power Plant which is going to set up in collaboration with Rosatom (Russia's Nuclear Power giant) to the sea-shore between Prakasam and Nellore districts.

Proposals to set up unit of Nuclear Fuel Complex at Kurnool and mine Uranian, a nuclear fuel, in Rayalseema are under consideration.
