AP SEC Decides To Conduct Local Body Polls!
By: Tupaki Desk | 17 Nov 2020 11:30 AM GMTThe local body polls which were supposed to be held in March in Andhra Pradesh were postponed due to the Coronavirus outbreak, followed by a series of lockdowns, by SEC.
It is believed that A.P. State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar has decided to conduct local body polls in February 2020.
As the fresh Coronavirus infections have come down severely compared to March, the SEC is believed to have opted to conduct the polls. Nearly after a postponement of one year, the local body polls will be held.
To know the opinion of the political parties in the states, Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar chaired a meeting with the parties in the last week of October and the parties have reportedly agreed for the local body polls.
However, it is also believed that ruling YSRCP is against SEC's decision to conduct the local body polls in February. YSRCP reportedly boycotted the meeting.
Many factors like the growth in Coronavirus outbreak and the controversy around the SEC post of Nimmagadda resulted in the postponement of the local body polls in the state.
The SEC row, which went through many twists and turns ended in the month end of July after the Supreme Court heard a petition filed by Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar directed the state government to reinstall him as SEC.
The other day, the SEC has written a letter to AP Chief secretary Nilam Sawhney to stop the process of reorganization of the districts in the state citing that the Election Code is effective in the state.
