Another Media Houses Stops Printing, To Be Available Only Online

Another newspaper has announced temporary closure of its publication. CPI mouthpiece Praja Hitam has announced that it will cease publication till March 31 in view of the Corona crisis and said that it will take a call on the issue after March 31. But, now it appears certain that Praja Hitam may appear only in its online form till at least mid-April.
Praja Hitam joins Andhra Bhoomi and Deccan Chronicle, which have closed down till the Corona scare subsides. Other papers like Andhra Jyothi have reduced the number of page. Falling ad revenue, dropping circulation numbers, news print related issues and the problems in distributing the newspapers have hit them very hard. More media houses are likely to follow suit. Sources say, some newspapers are using this Corona scare to close down. Some papers might only continue with the online editions and cease news print format altogether even after the Corona attack as running a newspaper has become very difficult in view of the mounting losses.
After the corona subsides, there could be mass layoffs in the media houses and the media organisations, especially the print media, are looking at bleak future.
