Another Rajini-Kamal project: Will it be a hit?

They acted together in several films on the silver screen and all of them were huge hits. If all goes well, both will come together again. But, this time, it's not going to be on the silver screen, but on the political stage. Yes. Tamil superstar Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan have decided to come together to fight the upcoming assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. This casting coup of sorts became possible after Kamal Haasan, who is currently head of a political party titled Makkal Needhi Maiyum, appealed to RajiniKanth to join hands with him in politics. The appeal came at 6.30 pm on Tuesday. Within a short time, at about 7.45 pm, Rajini tweeted back saying he was ready to join hands with Kamal Haasan.
With this, the upcoming assembly elections in Tamil Nadu promise to become a three-cornered contest what with DMK, AIADMK and the Kamal-Rajini combo vying for the honours. Though Rajini has been indicating that he would join politics, he has always kept everyone guessing about his entry and the party of his choice. As for Kamal Haasan, he had founded Makkal Needhi Maiyum and had even contested the last elections. His party's performance was anything but encouraging. The party lost a majority of the seats it contested.
Though Rajini has always leaned towards the BJP, he has of late been very critical of the party. Recently, he had even slammed the BJP on several issues. This was seen as an indication that he might move away from the party. But, he has surprised everyone with his latest move of joining hands with Kamal Haasan.
