Another top police officer set to contest elections?

The political bug, it appears, has bitten another top cop in Telangana. Nizamabad police commissioner KS Nagaraju has expressed his desire to contest elections in 2023. He has indicated this in a meet the press organised in Nizamabad the other day. He said he would superannuate by the time the elections are held and said that he would contest the elections from Warangal district.

There have been rumours for some time that Nagaraju is interested in electoral politics. Now, he has confirmed that he will contest the polls. Nagaraju told mediapersons that he had gotten an opportunity to contest the elections in 2018 itself. But, KCR has dissuaded him saying that he has few more years of service to go and hence should not join the electoral fray.

In fact, Siddipet's collector Venkat Rami Reddy too had resigned the post and was nominated an MLC by KCR himself. Venkat Rami Reddy too had shown his political inclinations for quite some time. He had in fact touched KCR's feet publicly even while being a district collector. Interestingly, Reddy is a conferred IPS. Nagaraju too is a conferred IPS officer.

Nagaraju had been mired in controversies and Nizamabad's BJP MP Dharmapuri Arvind has always been critical of him. Arvind had in fact slapped a privilege motion against Nagaraju. The commissioner's political inclinations have always been a subject of discussion in the public domain. Now, he has let the cat out of the bag by announcing his intention to contest elections.
