Anti-Moonlighting Policy Opinion Gets Momentum by Tech Giants!
By: Tupaki Desk | 15 Sep 2022 5:22 AM GMTThe tech world habituated with the Work From Home model since the emergence of the Covid pandemic. As it was impossible for the employees to come to office fearing the virus spread, the Work From Home gave a hope for the Tech industry that there is nothing to worry about as far as the work is concerned.
The work from home helped the IT employees to do two jobs. The IT giants got to know about the practice of doing dual jobs which is called Moonlighting policy. Expressing shock over the policy, the Tech giants are saying no to this with a strong voice. The companies are even dubbing this as unethical.
The voice to say no to moonlighting policy got momentum as another Tech giant said no to the policy. Earlier, Wipro and Infosys said no to this and IBM joined the show now. The company also said the same.
Tech giant IBM which is one of the leading employers in India in the tech space said that moonlighting is an unethical practice and the practice can be supported. The company said similar to what Infosys said.
IBM MD Sandip Patel reacted to the practice and said that no matter what, the policy is unethical. He also rubbished the claims of the employees who say they are taking up the job in their free time. The Managing Director is of the view that, irrespective of when they do the alternative job, taking up a job while holding one is nothing but unethical.
IBM is the new tech giant to react to the moonlighting policy and oppose it. Sandip Patel reacted on the similar lines of what Wipro and Infosys said. He said, when employees are hired they should work for their respective employers and holding other jobs violates the employees code.
The tech giants have the same doubt in common. They feel that the productivity of employees will not be directed towards the company. As they have to take care of alternative jobs as well, the employees might not give their best in the full time job. This is the employees version.
Going to the employees version, they ask what is the issue when they do alternative jobs in their free time. Saying that they are not focusing on one job while working on the other, the employees are saying they are just utilising their leisure time. This is a never ending saga. Both parties have contrast views and they are supporting their stand.
