AP Assembly Clears Resolution To Abolish Council
By: Tupaki Desk | 27 Jan 2020 2:15 PM GMTToday morning, AP Cabinet passed a resolution to abolish the Legislative Council. The resolution was moved in the Assembly without any delay and debate happened on it for few hours. Speaker Tammineni Sitharam gave a call for voting on the resolution moved by the State Government. TDP Members skipped the session to remain unavailable for the voting knowing that YCP have the majority. Jana Sena MLA Rapaka Varaprasad voted in favour of the abolition. Speaker directed Ministers Mopidevi Venkataramana and Pilli Subhash Chandrabose to stay away from voting as they are MLCs. Finally, The resolution to abolish Legislative Council was cleared with 133-0 votes.
Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy declared YCP Government decided to abolish the Legislative Council in the best interest of people as crucial bills had been blocked by TDP using its majority. He expressed his anguish over the decision of Council Chairman to send the bill related to '3 Capitals' to the Select Committee. CM didn't hesitate to say, 'Upper House which was meant to provide valuable suggestions to the Government has been working against people's aspirations. Council Chairman admitted his decision was against the rules while referring to the Select Committee. It's like committing a murder inspite of knowing that's a crime'.
Now, The resolution abolishing Legislative Council will be sent to Centre for its approval. Will NDA Government take the move of YCP Government seriously and pass the bill in the Parliament?
