AP CID Sleuths arrest Ashok Babu, TDP calls it Vendetta!
By: Tupaki Desk | 11 Feb 2022 5:15 AM GMTIn what could be a big development, senior Telugu Desam Party leader and current Member of the Legislative Council(MLC) Ashok Babu was taken into custody by the Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department (CID) sleuths in connection with an old case.
It is said that the arrest happened during the early hours of Friday. Ashok Babu was believed to have been arrested at around 12.15 PM. In connection with the old controversy involving his educational qualifications, the AP CID had arrested him.
Ashok Babu has been accused of providing false information about his educational qualification and he reportedly submitted a fake B.Com degree when he had contested the elections. Holding him responsible for providing false information, a case under Indian Penal Code sections 477A, 465, and 420 against him. The sections under which the case was filed deal with forgery, with intent to defraud and cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.
The case of the alleged fake certificates involving Ashok Babu reached Lokayukta after a petition was filed. Hearing the petition, Lokayukta had issued directives saying that the CID should probe the issue. The case was filed in Lokayukta earlier last year.
After receiving directives from the Lokayukta, the CID officials swung into action and carried out a probe. Media reports said that the arrest was made after the investigation officers gathered information against the Telugu Desam Party MLC.
On the flip side, the opposition Telugu Desam Party gave a swift reaction to the arrest and found fault with the way the arrest was made. TDP leaders had dubbed the arrest as political vendetta and said that false cases were filed against the MLC.
Telugu Desam Party chief, former Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu had condemned the arrest of MLC Ashok Babu and asked what’s the need of arresting him during midnight that too without serving a prior notice. Ashok Babu was arrested by filing a false case against him, Chandrababu Naidu alleged.
Alleging that the Andhra Pradesh government is arresting those who are raising voices against the ruling party, the grand old Telugu Desam Party had condemned the arrest.
