The other day, the Hyderabad-based Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology(CCMB) claimed that the N440K variant of the Covid-19 virus has been creating havoc across Andhra Pradesh. The institute called the variant lethal than the previous variants.

Reacting to the claims, Andhra Pradesh State Covid Command Control chairman KS Jawahar Reddy rubbished the reports and issued a clarification on the effectiveness and the dangerousness of the variant.

Mr. Reddy said that no research data was available to confirm the claims and urged everyone to not scare people in the middle of the pandemic situations.

Adding further, Jawahar Reddy said, the N440K variant was detected during June and July last year in southern states of India. The variant showed its effect during Dec, January, and February.

However, the impact of the variant started to fade away in March and the impact of the variant is quite negligible, the state Covid Command Control chairman added.

Talking about the N440K variant, Jawahar Reddy asked how come the global agency World Health Organization(WHO) and apex biomedical research body in India, the Indian Council of Medical Research(ICMR) couldn't recognise the so-called deadly variant.
