In a quick turn of events Ex-Madras High Court judge, V Kanakaraj was appointed as the new Andhra Pradesh State election commissioner(EC). This new move came hours after Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar was removed as the EC with the ordinance put forth by the state government approved by the governor.

Earlier, the cabinet meeting chaired by AP CM Jagan Mohan Reddy has approved the amendments in the AP Panchayat Raj Act, which enabled by the state government to reduce the tenure of the election commissioner from five years to three years.

This also gave a chance to make the rank of the State Election Commionsner to that of a high court judge giving no chance for the former EC Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar to hold the office.

Looking at the profile of Mr.Kanagaraj, for nine years he has rendered his services as the Madras High Court judge and post his retirement he had been serving as the senior advocate in the apex court.

The newly appointed SEC has gained himself a lot of name after giving some landmark judgments in Madras and Madurai benches which paved way for him to get nominated to the syndicate and senate of Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University
