Shocker For Ap Government In RLIS Scheme
X
In what could be seen as a major reversal for the Andhra Pradesh Government, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has found fault with the AP government for taking up constructions for the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme (RLIS) in the backwaters of the Srisailam project. It said the AP Government's constructions despite the halt orders of the National Green Tribunal amounted to contempt.

The NGT was responding in connection with a petition by the Telangana Government which said that the AP Government was undertaking construction in the RLIS even after the NGT orders. The NGT asked the AP Government as to why it was going ahead with the construction. It also wondered if the Central Government was colluding with the AP government in this activity. It warned the officials of the AP Government of serious action for violating its orders.

It reacted when the Krishna River Management Board submitted a report wherein it said that there was no construction activity when the inspection was undertaken. It however admitted that there was some construction material and equipment at the project site. However, the NGT was unhappy with the report and said that the Centre had delayed the submission of an affidavit. It said it would issue orders on what action needed to be taken against the AP government on August 27.
