The Andhra Pradesh government, which is not happy with State Election Commissioner N. Ramesh Kumar announcing the election schedule for the local body polls and asking the government to halt the schemes till the commencement of the polls moved the High Court.

Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj Principal Secretary GK Dwivedi filed a petition on the behalf of the government challenging the election schedule issued by the SEC.

In the petition, the state government called the behavior of the SEC a display of arrogance of power and called the election schedule unconstitutional, and sought directives to differ the polls.

Referring to the High Court orders, Dwivedi told the court that the objections from the government end were sent to SEC over the local body polls when the government officials met him.

He alleged that SEC Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar announced the election schedule without contacting the government and he might have Malice aforethought which is why he issued the schedule.

In the petition, the state government referred to the situations in Bihar, Kerala, and United States and said the fresh infections increased rapidly after the elections were commenced.

The government also found fault with SEC's behavior to go ahead with the local body elections despite the Coronavirus issues as the vaccination drive is expected to start in January.

The Andhra Pradesh government moved a 'House Motion petition' in the High Court challenging the SEC's election schedule. The Court is likely to hear the petition on Monday.
