AP HC says Married women are also eligible for compassionate jobs

A sensational case of whether a married woman is eligible for a job under compassionate grounds has reached the Andhra Pradesh High Court. Hearing the issue, the High Court gave a historical verdict.
Justice B Devanand said, offering a job to a son or an unmarried daughter will be discrimination towards women and quashed the guidelines of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC). The Court issued directives to appoint her in six weeks.
Going into detail, an RTC driver Ch Pentaiah who hails from Srikakulam district lost his life in 2009. His wife applied for his job. However, the APSRTC authorities didn't approve her application claiming that she was not eligible to get the job.
After her application was denied, Pentaiah's daughter Damayanti applied for the job on compassionate grounds. The RTC claimed that a ban was going on the appointment and she didn't get any reply from the corporation.
Following this, the woman knocked on the doors of the Court to consider her job application on compassionate grounds. The petition was filed in the state High Court in 2014.
The case came to a hearing with Damayanti moving the High Court once again. During the hearing, the transport corporation told the court that as per the guidelines only a son or an unmarried daughter can get a job on compassionate grounds.
While ruling out that the woman is eligible to get the job under compassionate grounds, Justice B Devanand said daughters are taking care of the family and directed the transport corporation to give a job to her within six weeks.
