The division bench of Andhra Pradesh High Court that had begun a fresh hearing of the bunch of petitions that were filed against AP govt's three capitals proposal had heard the petitions on Tuesday. High Court Chief Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra led the division bench that heard the petitions. During the hearing, the bench made interesting comments on Amaravati.

During the arguments, CJ Prashant Kumar Mishra said, Amaravati is not the capital for the farmers alone, it is for the people living in all the districts in the state. 30,000 farmers gave their lands for the proposed capital region, the CJ said.

Having said that, the Chief Justice said the freedom fighters who fought for freedom did not fight for their personal cause for the whole country. They fought for the freedom of the entire population of the country, the CJ added.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court started the hearing of the bunch of petitions for the second consecutive day. Senior advocate Shyam Divan had represented the Amaravati farmers in the case and placed his arguments before the court and highlighted the plight of the farmers.

The senior counsel told the High Court that the farmers had sacrificed their livelihood for Amaravati for the capital and sought orders from the court to direct the government to implement the lease agreements and other agreements made by the previous government at the time of the agreement.

The Counsel also sought directives from the High Court to direct the state government to finish the development programs in Amaravati at the earliest given the fact that the farmers have given their lands for the development of the state. He accused the government of shifting the capital with a political vendetta.

The previous TDP government had proposed Amaravati as the capital for the divided state after Telangana was carved out of the combined AP. However, the YSRCP that rose to power had announced three capital strategy, to have one capital each for the legislature, executive, and judiciary.

The Amaravati farmers have been protesting against the three capitals ever since the announcement was made. Currently, the farmers are holding padayatra.
