Breaking: AP High Court Cancels MPTC, ZPTC Election Notification!
By: Tupaki Desk | 21 May 2021 6:42 AM GMTAs a major blow to the Andhra Pradesh government led by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the state High Court on Friday issued key directives on Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency(MPTC) and Zilla Parishad Territorial Councils (ZPTC) election notification.
Hearing a petition filed in this regard, the Andhra Pradesh High Court single judge bench led by Justice M. Satyanarayana Murthy issued directives to cancel the Parishad elections that commenced on April 8 and ordered for another notification.
The High Court was satisfied with the arguments of the petitions that the election notification was not issued as per the Supreme Court directives to issue election notification for weeks before the elections.
The petition filed in this regard is going on for so long. Earlier on April 6, the single judge bench issued interim orders to stay the elections. But the division bench allowed the Parishad elections.
On May 4th, the High Court had reserved its judgment on the Parishad elections after hearing the arguments of the Andhra Pradesh government and the petitioners.
Now the High Court made it clear that the elections were canceled. Reports claimed that the State Election Commission might move the division bench of the High Court challenging the orders issued by the single judge bench.
