AP High Court Raises Its Objection on Volunteers Interference!

Attracting controversy is not new for the volunteer system in Andhra Pradesh. Despite the government flaunting the system, as its flagship system that is benefiting the public in the state, the system gets involved in some or the other issue bringing a headache to the government.
While the government has been dubbing the volunteer system as a unique way of making the government schemes and ration goods reach the doorstep of the beneficiaries, there is a strong criticism towards the system that it is making too much interference in every matter. Joining the force even the Andhra Pradesh High Court said the same.
The issue reached the court notice when a group of women had knocked on the doors of the High Court challenging the interference of volunteers. After they did not get the benefits of the YSR Cheyutha scheme, a few beneficiaries moved the court.
The High Court Justice expressed his shock over the interference of the volunteers and asked why the volunteers are made the deciding factor for the schemes and sought an explanation for this. Not just that, the court also said it want to know what authority the volunteers possess in deciding the beneficiaries of the schemes.
As the secretariat employees have to do a door-to-door survey to make a list of beneficiaries of the scheme, the High Court asked what the Secretariat employees are doing and why the volunteers are doing the job that is supposed to be done by the Secretariat employees.
Having raised all these questions, the Andhra Pradesh High Court had asked the government to file an affidavit on the issue along with the duties and responsibilities of the volunteers in the state. On top of this, as many as six volunteers and a few officials received notice from the court in this regard.
On a few occasions, Volunteers had brought a bad name to the entire system. A few of them were caught stealing money and other things. A few volunteers have absconded with the money that was supposed to reach the beneficiaries of various schemes. Many feel that volunteers were given extra powers than required and the court questioned the same.
