AP MP Targeted by Cyber Attackers, he loses around Rs 1 lakh!
By: Tupaki Desk | 4 May 2022 7:28 AM GMTCybercrimes are on a rise in the country. Earlier, the fraudsters used to lure the victims by saying that they have won the lottery and to get that money they have to pay some amount. Changing the way they operate, the cyber attackers are now approaching the victims on the pretext of updating their bank details to save their accounts from getting blocked.
The attackers talk with the victims posing themselves as the bank officials. They speak in a way that anyone listening to the fraudsters will believe them. Forget about others, even the educated people and people in a high position will also believe them and face the music after believing them.
As a classic example of how the fraudsters will cheat people no matter who they are, an MP was duped by the fraudsters. Believing them, the MP told them the OTP he received and later he got to know that he lost money from his account.
Going into detail, Kurnool MP Sanjeev Kumar was reportedly cheated by the fraudsters and he ended up losing money from his bank account. The MP had received a call from an unknown number. The person who spoke to the MP had introduced himself as a bank official.
Saying that his bank account was blocked, the person had asked the MP to link his phone number with his bank account. Asking the YCP MP to do the same, the person had reportedly sent a message along with a link.
The MP had opened the link and it reportedly redirected him to a website. Believing them, the MP had mentioned his details on the website and told the fraudsters the OTP. Later, the MP received a message as the fraudsters had withdrawn money from his account.
In total, two transactions were made using the MP's account, and close to one lakh was drawn by the fraudsters. After calling the concerned bank branch, the MP found that he had lost money from his account. Without wasting any time, the MP filed a police complaint against the fraudsters. The investigation had started already and the concerned authorities are yet to make the details public.
