Ruling YCP, Oppo TDP Gave Up On AP Special Category Status?

It is a fact that a great injustice was done to the divided Andhra Pradesh as the state was divided with no proper capital and no financial assistance to have capital. Though the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union government assured that the state will get the help. Sadly, this did not happen.

The special category promise was also not fulfilled and it made the whole difference in the general elections in Andhra Pradesh. Believing that YSRCP would fight for the special status, voters voted for the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led party. However, after coming into power, YCP cleared the airs saying that the special category might not be possible.

When the Presidential polls were announced, many felt that Andhra Pradesh got a big opportunity to get the promise fulfilled. A few experts also said that the YCP has a golden chance as far as the special category status is concerned.

Pouring water on the special category hopes, YSRCP announced its support and said that it will cast its votes for Draupadi Murmu in the polls. Even the opposition Telugu Desam Party also said it will support Murmu as it will be an honor to the St community.

The YSRCP which made a big issue out of the special category and even announced the resignations of all the legislators when in opposition did not make any noise for the same when it has the opportunity. The strength YSRCP enjoys in the Parliament places it in a good position that it can fight for the demand.

It appears like both YSRCP and Telugu Desam Party gave up on the special category status as the parties did not mention the issue ever since the polls were announced. YSRCP and TDP held events in Andhra Pradesh to extend their support for Murmu. It is a shock that the ruling and opposition parties compromised on the interest of the state.

In this case, we should learn from the neighboring state Tamil Nadu. No matter what the issues the parties have, they come under one roof in the fight for the state. We have seen this when the JalliKattu issue popped up. The whole state came on one opinion and fought for the Jalli Kattu row.
