The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet met today chaired by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. The Cabinet had discussed the budget proposals and approved the Budget ordinance

The Cabinet met via virtual meeting and passed the Vote on Account for the financial year 2021-2022. The cabinet allocated 90,000 crores for the budget, which is applicable till the 31st of June only.

The Vote on Account is the special provision given to the government to acquire the vote of the House to withdraw money on two conditions- when the budget was not released or the elections are underway.

The budget ordinance was sent to Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan for his approval. He is expected to approve the budget ordinance before the month-end.

On the other hand, the budget sessions of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly were postponed by the Cabinet taking the issues like Covid-19 fear and the election code into consideration.

Whether or not to go for the Assembly sessions after June lies with the government. The state government is likely to take a call on this and once the decision gets a nod from Governor, the sessions might be held.
