Days ahead of KRMB Meeting, AP writes another letter against TS
By: Tupaki Desk | 20 Aug 2021 5:57 PM ISTThe Krishna River Management Board is gearing up for its first meeting with Andhra Pradesh and Telangana after the jurisdictions of Krishna and Godavari boards were notified by the Centre earlier in July.
The meeting will take place on the 27th of this month. Following this, Andhra Pradesh had decided to intensify it's fight to stop Telangana from drawing more waters.
As part of its fight, Andhra Pradesh has written to the River Board finding fault with the objections raised by the Telangana government over the diversion of Godavari water to Krishna basin.
The letter was written by AP irrigation engineer-in-chief C Narayana Reddy to the river board in which he raised severe objections to the claims of neighbouring state Telangana.
The new letter shot by Andhra Pradesh marks the second one that was written to the Krishna River Management Board(KRMB) seeking the orders to stop Telangana from taking more water.
Andhra Pradesh had maintained in the letter that Telangana is going ahead with its projects by drawing water from the common water reservoirs even before the water sharing between the states was fixed.
Alleging that Telangana is constructing more than 40 new projects, Andhra Pradesh complained to the River Board and called these projects illegal.
Andhra Pradesh had also maintained that letters requesting Telangana to not use water from the left powerhouse for power generation was also sent to Telangana but the state is not looking into the requests.
Having said that, Andhra Pradesh credited the decline of water levels in Srisailam reservoir to Telangana drawing waters.
Adding further, Andhra Pradesh sought directives from the River Board to stop Telangana from drawing water from the common bodies or else the account of water used by Telangana should be made public.
KRMB also received a complaint from Andhra Pradesh against Telangana that the state is using the power generated at Nagarjuna Sagar and Pulichintala project despite both states having a share in it..
The Centre has issued a Gazette notification to notify the jurisdiction of the water boards of Krishna and Godavari rivers respectively to resolve the issues between two Telugu States.
