Apex Council meet to be postponed?

It now turns out that the much-touted Apex Council meet on Krishna river water may not happen at all. With Union minister for water resources Gajendra Singh Shekawat testing positive for Corona and getting admitted in the hospital for treatment, it is likely that the meeting could be deferred.

The Krishna water sharing has become a contentious issue between both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The Telangana is objecting to the AP Government's plan to construct the Rayalaseema LIS. But, the AP is arguing that this is an old project and does not use any water that is allocated to Telangana. The Centre has called for a meeting on August 5, but with KCR demanding more time, the Apex Council meeting was postponed to August 25. Now that Shekhawat is in quarantine, the meeting could be further postponed. But, sources say AP would be happy with this development as it has already completed the tender process and get more time to begin the works.

Now that the tendering process is already completed, the AP Government will sit pretty. Before the next meeting is fixed, it can get on with the preparatory works, sources say.
