Apple and oranges in Municipal elections

Apple, orange, air conditioner, cricket bat, table, binoculars ....these are among the election symbols that would be used for the upcoming municipal corporation and council elections in the state. As many as fifty such symbols have been identified for the elections in Telangana. The independents and the unrecognised parties would be given these symbols.

The recognised symbols like the hand, car, lotus would be allotted to the respective candidates from the Congress, TRS and the BJP. Both the Left paties ould also be given their official symbols. The TDP would get the bicycle symbol. The election commission sources said that the symbols have been chosen to ensure that they are not confused with the official symbols of the recognised parties. It may be recalled that the TRS had lost a few seats because of the symbols like tractor, bus and road roller given to the independents were confused with the TRS symbol of car. Hence, the TRS has requested the election commission to ensure that no such symbols are given to any independent.

The notification for the elections is expected soon. The elections would be held on January 22.
