As the biggest elevation in his stature, NV Ramana was made the Chief Justice of India from the position of Judge of Apex Court. Its been close to two years since he assumed the office. During his stint as the Chief Justice of India, NV Ramana had given some key verdicts in crucial cases.

These days, he has been raising his voice on how the judiciary is being attacked. The CJI had said the same and highlighted how the contempt of court cases are pending with the courts with the officials failing to implement the orders issued by the courts.

Expressing his concerns over the rise in the contempt of court cases, the CJI said that, if the government and officials implement the orders issued by the courts then the work of the judiciary will be reduced and urged everyone that the democracy is a key and healthy democracy thrive only if the governments and judiciary work hand in hand.

Having said that, the CJI made it clear that, the judiciary has no intention of coming in the way of the governments, and the courts are just doing their work. NV Ramana made these comments while addressing the Joint Conference of Chief Ministers and Chief Justices of High Courts.

NV Ramana said that if the concerned authorities and officials do their work properly then the courts will get a chance to reduce their burden. People will not look at the courts if the bodies do their work without others' invention, he said.

The Comments of the Chief Justice of India on the jurisdiction of the judiciary had started a new debate as many people think that he might have made these comments indirectly to the Andhra Pradesh government which was at the loggerhead with the judiciary mainly with the CJI.

At one point, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had written a letter urging the Supreme Court collegium to not appoint NV Ramana as the Chief Justice of India saying that he has some vested interests in the Amaravathi region. The issue became a huge sensation at that time. Looking at this, many people think that CJI might have made comments pointing at the AP Govt.
