Around One lakh US Green Cards to go in vain this year!

The green cards issued by the US are not less than hotcakes among the foreigners especially to Indians who prefer living and settling there. Thousands of applications reach the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) seeking Green Card which is a proof to confirm the permanent residence of a person in the United States.

While the competition for the green cards is too high, around one lakh cards are expected to go to waste this year as the financial year in the US ends on September 30 which is barely a month from now. The same date is also the last date for the visa processing..

The green cards are expected to get wasted when the cap on the green visa count was increased to 2,61,500 from 1,40,000.

Unlike every year, the visa processing went at a snail speed due to the Covid impact. With the country being the severely hit one by the country, the authorities have focused on the fight with the virus leaving all the other works aside.

As the quota of the green cards was not used fully this time, more than 100 people who belong to India and China have moved a local court with a lawsuit to highlight their plight.

The petitioners told the court that the visa processing process was slowed down due to the ongoing pandemic which will have a heavy toll on them.

The representatives of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community formally met the United States President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris the other day.

A few media outlets claimed that the main motto behind the meeting between President and delegation is to request him to look into the serious matter.

It is said that the green cards quota that is not used this year cannot be taken forward to the next year and those who applied for the permanent residency in the United States cannot apply for the second time in 2020 and they will have to wait five long years to apply.

If this is the case, a lot of eligible employees will lose opportunities to get the green cards.
