Will Centre scrap Rs 2000 Note?
By: Tupaki Desk | 27 July 2017 7:05 AM GMTPeople of India always have the fear that Centre will scrap the Rs 2,000 currency notes some time in future. Will there be another round of Demonetisation?
In Rajya Sabha, SP MP Naresh Agarwal asked Government to give a clarity of possible ban on Rs 2000 note and introduction of Rs 1,000 Coins. Even Congress MP Ghulam Nabi Azad sought clarity on Rs 2000 note ban and reports about introduction of Rs 100, Rs 200 and Rs 1000 coins.
When Opposition MPs asked Centre to clarify whether it have plans to scrap Rs 2000 denomination notes, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley refused to respond on the topic. This reluctance gave an impression that Rs 2000 notes willn't be in circulation for much longer.
RBI stopped printing of Rs 2,000 notes five months ago. Even the supply of these higher denomination notes has declined drastically in the recent months.
Centre is of the view that it's easy to store black money in the form of Rs 2,000 notes. It also believes introducing more number of Rs 500 and Rs 200 notes would minimize the aftereffects of ban on Rs 2000 notes.
