Asaram Bapu Convicted in Rape Case

The Jodhpur Schedule Caste & Schedule Tribe Court convicted self-styled godman Asaram Bapu and two others (Shiva & Shilpi) in a rape case. Whereas, Two others have been acquitted of all the charges.
Charges against Asaram Bapu - Raping Minor Girl, Criminal Conspiracy, Wrongful Confinement, Sexual Harassment and Criminal Intimidation.
Asaram Bapu was lodged in the Jodhpur Central Prison. Currently, The trail related to two sexual assault cases (One case in Rajasthan, One case in Gujarat) is under progress.
Conviction of Asaram Bapu is under Section 376 and POCSO Act. Counsel of the Godman pleaded for leniency in the quantum of punishment by mentioning his welfare programmes.
Section 144 has been imposed in Jodhpur till April 30th following the conviction of Asaram Bapu to prevent untoward incidents.
