Oscar Winner boycotts in protest against Trump
By: Tupaki Desk | 27 Feb 2017 8:13 AM GMTIranian Filmmaker Asghar Farhadi skipped the prestigious 89th Academy Awards Ceremony held tonight in protest against Trump's Travel Ban.
Asghar Farhadi won Oscar Award in the category Best Foreign Language Film for the movie 'The Salesman'. He claimed to have boycotted Oscars 2017 out of respect for people of his country and those of six other nations who have been disrespected by the inhuman laws of Trump's administration. 'I am sorry I am not with you Tonight. Dividing the World into us and our entries categories creates fear, a deceitful justification for aggression and war,' his speech read.
It is believed that German drama 'Toni Erdmann' was the frontrunner to grab Oscar in Foreign Language category. But, Jury preferred Farhadi after he boycotted the ceremony to sent a strong statement against Trump's immigration policy.
Asghar Farhadi won his first Oscar Award for the movie 'A Separation' in 2012.
