The Tricolor wrapped on the mortal remains of Atal Bihari Vajpayee was handed over to Niharika Bhattacharya. Who is she? Niharika happens to be the Daughter of Vajpayee's Foster Daughter Namita Bhattacharya (who is the biological daughter of Vajpayee's Friend Rajkumari Kaul).
Atal Bihari Vajpayee is so attached to his Granddaughter. Even when he was the Prime Minister, Niharika alone used to have the luxury of breaching the security cordon of SPG Commandos. The BJP Patriarch used to relax and have a smile on his face soon after catching a glimpse of his granddaughter. He had play cricket and watched movies with her.
Vajpayee has been suffering from health issues since the past 10 years. He became wheelchair-bound and wasn't even able to speak properly. It was Niharika who took care of her Grandfather during this phase. This is why she was given the opportunity to accept the tricolor wrapped on Vajpayee's body.
