Athlete Auctions Olympic Medal To Help A Baby Who Needs Surgery

Going into details, Polish javelin thrower Maria Andrejczyk who got to know about the condition of a baby boy Pole Miloszek who needs a heart surgery took the decision.
After she realised that she was not in a position to donate money, the athlete said her medal would be auctioned and the amount will be donated for the surgery.
As a noble gesture, the athlete took to social media and said as a bit of help to save the little boy, she is auctioning her medal she won at Olympics and the amount raised by the auction will be used for the operation.
'Miloszek has a serious heart defect. He needs an operation. He already has a head start from Kubus - a boy who didn't make it in time but whose amazing parents decided to pass on the funds they collected. And in this way, I also want to help. It's for him that I am auctioning my Olympic silver medal," her post reads.
Her decision has earned praise and she is being lauded for her gesture. Her post went instant viral and her followers also came forward to donate as much as they can.
Famous Supermarket store Zabka which had participated in the auction bid for the Silver Medal won the bid. The bid was closed at around Rs 1.4 crore in Indian currency.
The store had transferred the amount for the baby's operation expenses and returned back the medal to the athlete.
Talking about returning the Silver Medal to the Athlete, the Supermarket Chain said, they took the decision as the medal belongs to the athlete.
The eight-month-old baby Miloszek is suffering from Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Connection (TAPVC) and the condition needs a major heart surgery that costs around Rs 2.86 crore. Including the money raised through the Silver Medal auction, close to 90 percent of the amount was raised and the total amount is expected to be raised soon.
