Young swimmer Maana Patel has scripted history by making way to the forthcoming Tokyo Olympics 2020. She became the first female swimmer from India to get a slot in the Olympics.

She was qualified to represent India in the Olympics under the Universality quota. The Universality quota provides slots for one male and female athlete each on the condition that no athlete of the same gender gets qualified from the game.

Maana Patel will represent India at the 100m backstroke category in the Tokyo Olympics. Maana became the third swimmer to get qualified for India overall. The other athletes are Sajan Prakash and Srihari Natarajan.

Sajan Prakash and Srihari Nataraj will be competing in the 200m butterfly and 100m backstroke categories at the Olympics respectively.

Speaking to the media, Meena said she heard about the news when the other athletes informed her and she watched the Television to confirm the news. I am getting goosebumps to know that I will be competing with the best athletes, she said.

BJP Rajya Sabha member, Minister of State of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, and Minister of State in the Ministry of Minority Affairs of India Kiren Rijiju took to Twitter to share the news of Meena qualifying for the Olympics.
