Badvel Bypoll to be an acid test for BJP-Jana Sena relations

Badvel bypoll is fast emerging as a benchmark for the BJP-Jana Sena friendship. Though both the parties are in an alliance, the understanding is limited to the top. At the ground level, there is no sign of an alliance. Both the parties are working independently and some times, even at cross purposes.

In the panchayat and the MPTC , ZPTC elections too, the alliance did not work at the ground level. In fact, in many places, the Jana Sena had an understanding with the TDP and there was strategic transfer of votes between the two parties. As a result, the Jana Sena ended up with nearly 25 per cent votes. This is said to be mainly because of the transfer of votes. In Tirupati bypolls too, the BJP managed to pin down the Jana Sena ad got its nominee to contest the elections. The result is that the Jana Sena votes did not get transferred to the BJP.

Now the Jana Sena is bent on contesting the Badvel bypoll. It wants to put up its candidate and want the BJP to support it. A bypoll in Badvel has become necessary as sitting MLA Dr Venkata Subbaiah has passed away. The YSRCP has given the ticket to his wife Dasari sudha. The TDP has decided to put up Obulapuram Rajasekhar as its candidate. The Jana Sena will decide its candidate sooner than later.

Post Badvel bypoll, Pawan Kalyan may take a call on whether to continue with the alliance or not. Sources say that there are feelers from the Opposition TDP to join hands against the YSRCP. The party cadre is already of the opinion that the alliance with the BJP is not working at the ground level.
